  1. Creating a Cut line in Illustrator...

    Home   i   CONTACT   I

  1. 1.You need to create a swatch color labeled “CutContour”. If this is done correctly a tapered corner will appear in the new swatch color created.

  2. a)Double click a swatch color of choice.

  3. b)Change to a “Spot Color” & label the “CutContour” EXACTLY as shown here minus quotations. It will be case sensitive.

When the time comes to use the CutContour line make sure it has a stroke of .25 and a meter of 1...

2. You now need to create layer copy of your artwork.

  1. 3.Turn off visibility on the copied layer by clicking on the eye.

  2. 4.Select the circle on the original layer to select all the contents of the layer.

  3. 5.Open the Pathfinder dialog box.

  4. 6.Select “Add to Shape Area” in the Pathfinder dialog.

7. If you require an offset or a bleed on your contour cut go to “Object -> Path -> Offset Path” and change the values to your preference. If

you do this you must delete the original object used to make the offset path or you will have 2 cut lines. Delete the inside line for offset and

    the outside line for inset.

  1. 8.Make sure you are using the correct color for your contour cut line.

  2. 9.Make sure your cut line is the top layer of your document.

  3. 10. Save your file as .eps or .pdf NO EXCEPTIONS!

  4. 11. If a cut line has to be applied by us there will be a $35 charge per image.

  5. 12. This is a sure way of doing this, as we offer no phone support for these instructions.
